God forgives ... why can't we?

“I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” – Jeremiah 31:34b

In Jeremiah 31:31-34, the foretelling of a new covenant is announced. The Lord God will put His law (The 10 Commandments) in our minds and write it on our hearts. He will be our God and we shall be His people. We will “know the Lord” because His Spirit, not human beings, will be our teacher. The Lord God will forgive us of our iniquity and will no longer remember our sin.

Jeremiah’s prophecy was fulfilled with Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. He came into the world to do the will of His Father - to be the final, perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people, thereby bringing salvation.

In Hebrews 10:11-14, the old covenant was not lasting. Priests ministered and offered sacrifices daily, but our sin remained. We were still separated from God.

But with Jesus’ sacrifice, God could look at His Son and the blood He willingly gave and not see our wrongdoings, our lawlessness. He forgives us, He does not remember our sins.

The High Priest, our Father God, His Son, our Lord Jesus, His Holy Spirit, ours. Forgiven.

Yet our human counterparts do not forgive, do not forget. God forgives me, forgives you, but to forgive another does not come easy and sometimes takes years.

Help us “know the Lord” Father. If Your Love is not in us, how can we know the way, the truth and the life – how can we follow the right path?

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was." ~ John 17:1-5

"Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested." ~ Revelation 15:4

"God - calls those things which do not exist as though they did; ... (He) did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform."

Our passionate desire is to see others grow closer to Jesus.

Jim sees this through the effectual preaching and teaching of God's Word - impressing upon others their need to be born-again and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and also encouraging fellow believers in their daily walk with the Lord.

He is interested in serving churches in need of pastoral leadership or coming into individual homes for small group worship and/or Bible study. He also is available to provide communion and officiate at funerals and weddings.

His wife, Cathy, is a journalist and has been writing devotional poetry since 2006. She is working on a resource book titled "Many stones, One Rock."

Both of us enjoy photography, and Cathy likes to use Scripture and her poetry to make Scripture photo cards and bookmarks.

We enjoy visiting others in Eastern Iowa, reading Scripture and sharing prayers.

Jim accepted Christ as His Savior on Dec. 5, 1971. Cathy accepted Christ as Her Savior on Aug. 29, 1982.

Our home church is Immanuel Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids.

We are currently serving Lincoln Street Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.

Glorify GOD Ministries is the name we chose for our ministry. We created a website in December 2016 and soon after, a Facebook page. We travel within a 75-mile radius of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to minister to churches in transition, as well as individuals.
